Artist Research - Janine Rewell

Janine Rewell

Janine Rewell is a Helsinki Based illustrator and graphic designer. She studied at the university of art and design in Helsinki and also the Rhode island school of design.

Throughout her career she has always been a freelance illustrator. She has received much recognition during her short ongoing career.

Her national recognition began in 2009 when she was recognised by The design Lion at the Cannes lions advertising festival. The following year Print magazine selected Rewell to feature in its 2010 annual 'New Visual Artists Review'. Which highlighted twenty international upcoming and rising artists under the age of 30.

In 2011  she received The prestigious junior award in Finlands best of the year design and advertising competition.

She has worked in many group exhibitions and also countless sole exhibitions in Poland and Spain.
Some of her previous clients include
Toyota
 Nokia
Swarovski
Vogue eyewear

Her works are mostly inspired by the geometry of nature, decorative details and intense vivid, bold colours. Her designs consist of a mixture of Scandinavian design and Slavic folk art.

In 2014 Janine collaborated with Minna Parikka to advertise her spring range of shoes.

The above images aren't the traditional form of illustration, and uses the body as a canvas to advertise Minna Parikka shoes. Rewell’s colourful shapes are surface designs that communicate how stylish this particular product is, and the a lifestyle (of sorts) that accompanies it.
